Perennial Plant Conference 2008

The University of Connecticut is sponsoring the annual "Perennial Plant Conference--A Conference for the Professional Horticulturist..” The conference will be held at the Lewis B. Rome Commons on the University of Connecticut Storrs campus on Thursday, March 13, 2008. 

This all-day educational conference will address a wide range of topics focusing on herbaceous perennial production, landscape design and retail marketing. Topics were selected to appeal to nursery and greenhouse producers, retail garden centers, and professional landscapers and designers. Two concurrent educational sessions will feature nationally recognized speakers from both industry and academia.  

The speakers featured at the conference will include:

·                    Rick Darke from Landscape Ethics, Photography and Contextual Design in Landenberg, PA who will be speaking on Sustainable Design using Grasses, Sedges and Rushes.  

·                    Stephanie Cohen, Horticultural Consultant from Collegeville, PA will be speaking on New and Underused Perennials. She will also be speaking on Fallscaping: Extending Your Gardening into Autumn, based upon her new book.   

·                    Ian Baldwin from Nursery Business Consultants in Elk Grove, CA will be speaking on Updating Your Garden Center – Small Spends, Big Wins. He will also be discussing Making Money With Tomorrow’s Demographics – the Green and I-Pod Age.

·                    Larry Weaner from Larry Weaner Landscape Design Associates in Glenside, PA will be speaking on Native Design and the Herbaceous Ground Layer.

·                    Daniel Gilrein from the Long Island Horticultural Research and Extension Center in Riverhead, NY will be speaking on Au Naturel in the Garden: Pest Management Gets Greener.

·                    Ed Snodgrass from Emory Knoll Farms in Street, MD will be speaking on the State of Green Roofs  in the US.

·                    Karen Perkins Probst from Garden Vision in Hubbardston, MA will be speaking on Epimediums – Not Just Groundcover Anymore.

·                    Randall Prostak from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA will be speaking on Managing Weeds of Perennials in Landscapes and Production.

A pre-registration fee of $80 per person is due by March 6th. 

If post marked after March 6th or paid at the door, the fee is $90 per person.
