Space is limited and advanced registration is required by March 30.  You can download the workshop announcement and registration form from the Internet at http://northeast.fws.gov/invasive.pdf  For more information, contact Cynthia Boettner at 413-863-0209 x6, email cynthia_boettner@fws.gov

 3.  The following note is from Bob Capers from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, regarding a volunteer lake-monitoring program for invasive aquatic plants in Connecticut lakes and ponds.

The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station and the Connecticut Federation of Lakes are launching a volunteer lake-monitoring program this year as a way of getting more people to look for invasive aquatic plants.  The activities of individual volunteers will vary depending on their interest and availability. Organizers of the monitoring program hope many people will conduct surveys of their lakes, paddling or motoring slowly around, looking for invasive plants and recording the location of any they see.  Other people may be interested in preparing maps that show the location of all native and invasive plants, or they may want to inspect boat trailers to make sure they are not carrying invasive plants.  People with more time may be willing to establish permanent transects where quantitative information on species’ abundance can be gathered each year.  Workshops to explain the volunteer lake-monitoring program more fully and to provide training in identification of invasive aquatic plants will be held later this spring.  One will be held Saturday, April 30, at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, and others remain to be scheduled in other parts of the state.  People who want to register for one of the workshops may call or email Bob Capers at the experiment station, (203) 974-8469, robert.capers@po.state.ct.us.
