Governor M. Jodi Rell signed a proclamation declaring February 24 – March 1, 2008 as National Invasive Weed Awareness Week in the State of Connecticut. The Governor’s Proclamation recognized the following five organizations for working diligently to educate the public on the identification and management of invasive plants and the use of native plants and other non-invasive alternatives that can be planted instead of invasives:
The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc.
The Connecticut Invasive Plants Council
The Connecticut Invasive Plant Working Group
The Invasive Plant Atlas of New England
The Nature Conservancy of Connecticut
Additionally, the Connecticut General Assembly issued an Official Citation, introduced by Senator Donald J. DeFronzo, Representative John C. Geragosian, Representative Elizabeth A. Boukus, Representative Tim O’Brien, Representative Peter A. Tercyak, and Senator Andrew W. Roraback, recognizing the five organizations for the important work that is being done to prevent the spread of invasive plants in Connecticut.
The Connecticut Invasive Plant Working Group would like to thank CIPWG member Susan Parr for her efforts to have the Governor’s Proclamation and Official Citation created.
