The Integrated Pest Management Curriculum for Connecticut

              NEWS FLASH!

Introducing… Integrated Pest Management (IPM)!  IPM is a science and information based pest management system that offers unique opportunities as the basis of a school curriculum.  It directly impacts many of our concerns to protect the environment and provide safe food and water.  IPM illustrates the relevance of basic science, mathematics, language arts, and social studies to solving very real problems that impact our daily lives.  The University of Connecticut has prepared a comprehensive curriculum to address the environmental issues that we face today.

      OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS!!

The University of Connecticut will provide 25 lucky teachers at a Connecticut Regional Education Service Center (RESC)  a hands-on preview of the first IPM Curriculum for 2nd and 3rd grades, a carefully designed course of study sure to provide you and your students with hours of enjoyable, active learning experiences.  In 2003 we introduced the IPM Curriculum for grades 7 & 8, and in 2005 the IPM Curriculum for kindergarten & 1st grade became available.  We have received rave reviews and are very excited to be able to present our newest curriculum to you.  Aligned to both the Connecticut and National Science Standards, the lessons foster critical thinking skills and cooperative interaction.  While the major area of focus is science, opportunities for integrating other subject areas are imbedded within the lessons.  Plan to have at least one of your grade level teachers attend a workshop.  Workshop locations will be determined by arrangement.

WE'LL SAVE YOU A SEAT … AND THAT'S NOT ALL!

At each workshop, the first 25 teachers to sign up for the workshop and pay the $25.00 registration fee will receive, at no additional cost to their school, the complete curriculum kit including lesson plans, books, picture cards, Izzy the Praying Mantis puppet, videos, an activity book, games, and performance assessments valued at well over $300.00!  Refreshments will be provided.  Note: A limited number of curriculum kits are available.  While additional members of your faculty are welcome to attend @ $15.00 per person, only one curriculum kit per school will be provided.
