Perennial Plant Conference 2009

The University of Connecticut is sponsoring the annual "Perennial Plant Conference – A Conference for the Professional Horticulturist.” The conference will be held at the Lewis B. Rome Commons on the University of Connecticut Storrs campus on Thursday, March 12, 2009

This all-day educational conference will address a wide range of topics focusing on herbaceous perennial production, sustainable landscape design and retail marketing. Topics were selected to appeal to nursery and greenhouse producers, retail garden centers, and professional landscapers and designers. Two concurrent educational sessions will feature nationally recognized speakers from both industry and academia.  

The speakers featured at the conference will include:

·                    William Cullina from Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, ME will be speaking on Natural Mixers.   

·                    Dale Hendricks from North Creek Nurseries in Landenberg, PA will be speaking on New, Old Fashionable or Forgotten; Tested Plants for Regional Gardens and Landscapes.    

·                    Peter van Berkum from Van Berkum Nursery in Deerfield, NH will be speaking on Wigged Ruggeds.

·                    Jeff Jabco from the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA will be speaking on Water in the Garden: An Opportunity for the Gardener to Help the Planet.

·                    Cathy Johnston, Landscape Architect, Barrington, RI will be speaking on Sustainable Landscape Practices in the Real World.

·                    Susan McCoy from the Garden Media Group in Chadds Ford, PA will be speaking on Emerging Garden Trends 2009.

·                    Alison Kutz Troutman from Sound Horticulture in Bellingham, WA will be speaking on What’s on the Shelf? Unraveling the Mysteries of Biological and Botanical Products.

·                    Margery Daughtrey, Cornell University, LIHR, Riverhead, NY will be speaking on Diseases of Perennials- Getting Around them.

·                    Dan Benarcik, Chanticleer Gardens, in Wayne, PA will be speaking on Tough as Nails.

·                    Roger Bailey from Northeast Computer Consultants, East Brookfield, MA will be speaking on Making the Web Work for You.

A pre-registration fee of $80 per person is due by March 5th.  If post marked after March 5th or paid at the door, the fee is $90 per person.

Two pesticide recertification credits will be offered for attendees from CT, RI, MA, ME, NH, and VT (pending state approval).
