BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Integrated Pest Management coordinators at the University of Connecticut have been working with Connecticut teachers since 2001 to develop comprehensive curricula for children and young adults in grades K through 12.  These curricula are intended to illustrate the application of the science, math, and language arts taught in our schools to solving the environmental and human health problems facing society and to introduce the concepts of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to the younger generation, their families, and their communities.  The interactive, easy-to-follow lessons and supplemental resource materials provide participants with hours of enjoyable, active learning experiences with plant and animal pests, how to manage them, and how to protect the environment.  Recently introduced in Connecticut, the IPM curriculum has been enthusiastically received by area educators.

The curricula for grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 7-8 are now available.  The curriculum for grades 5-6 is currently in press.  Curricula for grades 9-12 will be developed over the next two years.  Workshops are conducted each year to introduce this exciting new curriculum to teachers and other educators.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list for workshop announcements and curriculum updates, or if you would like to obtain the IPM curriculum, please contact us.
