  • leaves alternate, large, rough-textured
  • leaves have serrated edge, oblique leaf base
  • leaves dull green, little fall color
  • stems smooth, brown, brittle, zig-zag
  • branches weep to form an umbrella
  • buds conical, pointed, divergent, brown
  • flowers and fruit are usually not seen
  • habit is a small grafted tree with weeping habit
  • graft union is usually seen on trunk as a swollen area or a transition in bark texture
