Located on right side of Ratcliffe Hicks Bldg.

  • leaves opposite, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate
  • leaves bluish green, with smooth margins
  • buds flat, imbricate, often superposed, brown, not pubescent as with L. maackii
  • buds divergent, held at a 90° angle to the stem
  • stems smooth, green turning brown, not pubescent as with L. maackii
  • flowers pink-white, tubular, in axillary pairs, in early spring
  • fruit is a red berry, not persisting late as with L. maackii
  • habit is an upright shrub, multi-stemmed and irregular
  • plant is very twiggy and dense, often ragged in winter
