Viburnum carlesii
Korean Spice Viburnum
Caprifoliaceae
Located along street in front of president's house.
- leaves opposite, ovate, minutely toothed
- leaves dull dark green; red in fall
- flower buds large, terminal, present all winter
- flower buds in rounded cluster, often with pair of foliar buds on
each side like ears
- foliar buds naked, fuzzy, tightly clasping leaves
- stems gray-brown, pubescent when young; fissuring with age
- flowers pinkish in bud, opening white and fragrant, in rounded clusters,
in early spring
- fruit is a oblong drupe, small, red to black, not persistent or
showy
- habit is a rounded shrub with stiff spreading branches
- plant is smaller than many viburnums
