- leaves opposite, obovate-oblong, large, coarsely serrate, with deeply
impressed veins
- leaves glossy dark green, with poor fall coloring
- flower buds large, valvate, often on stem tip, brown, slightly fuzzy
- foliar buds valvate, brown, smaller, appressed
- stems thick, gray, slightly pubescent
- flowers creamy white, in large flat-topped clusters, in mid-late
spring
- fruit is an oval drupe, red becoming black, gone by late fall
- fruit pedicel structure is pinkish-red and persists after fruit
are gone
- bark becomes rough and plated on older stems
- habit is a very large shrub or small tree, with an open habit and
rigid branches
- plant is the largest viburnum covered here
