Located in front of Hall building by Fairfield Way.
- leaves alternate, ovate, with jagged serrations along margin
- leaves glossy green in summer, red-orange in fall
- leaves have oblique leaf base
- buds imbricate, pointed, plump, diverging from stem
- flower and fruit usually not seen
- stems brown, slightly hairy with age, smooth when older
- bark distinctive, orange-brown with horizontal lenticels
- bark peels with age to some degree; attractive
- habit vase shaped, distinctly upright with lateral branches grouped
close together
