Located in front of Frat House #24, along road.
- leaves alternate, odd pinnate, with 5 or 7 leaflets
- leaflets deep green, serrated margins, elliptical
- terminal bud large, imbricate, brown
- fruit is a nut enclosed in a 4-valved, green husk
- flowers are catkins in spring
- bark peels in long vertical plates
- bark plates are attached at the center, free at both ends; hence
the "shaggy" look
- habit is a large tree with a straight trunk and shape that is often
irregular
