Located on left side of Buckley hall.
- leaves alternate, triangular, coming to long point
- leaves glossy green, with serrated edge
- leaves have different shape than B. papyrifera
- buds imbricate, pointed, brown
- flowers arranged in terminal catkins
- fruit are nutlets in green catkin
- bark red-brown when young, becoming chalky white
- bark is more gray than B. papyrifera and does not peal
- bark develops distinct black triangles below branch attachments
- habit is a small tree, irregular, often multi-trunked or colonial
