Halesia tetraptera

Located on the back side of the Grange Dorms.
- leaves alternate, simple, ovate to elliptical
- leaves medium green, lighter beneath
- leaves have minor marginal serrations, pointed tip
- buds superposed, imbricate, brown
- stems brown, smooth or pubescent, slightly zig-zag
- flowers bell-like, pendulous, white, in late spring
- fruit resemble a 4-winged "football", green to brown
- fruit hang, persist and are good ID features
- bark smooth, gray, with vertical striping or fissuring (contrast
with H. t. subsp. monticola)
- habit is a small multi-branched tree or a large shrub (contrast
with H. t. subsp. monticola)
