  • leaves alternate, linear, much longer than wide, with finely serrated margin, "willow-like"
  • leaves pale green, with very short petiole
  • buds small, imbricate, brown, divergent at 45° angle
  • stems wispy, thin, smooth, brown
  • flowers borne individually along stems, white, in spring
  • fruit a dry capsule, borne individually along stems
  • habit is an upright, arching multi-stemmed shrub
  • plant has a fine, willowy texture
