- leaves alternate, linear, much longer than wide, with finely serrated
margin, "willow-like"
- leaves pale green, with very short petiole
- buds small, imbricate, brown, divergent at 45° angle
- stems wispy, thin, smooth, brown
- flowers borne individually along stems, white, in spring
- fruit a dry capsule, borne individually along stems
- habit is an upright, arching multi-stemmed shrub
- plant has a fine, willowy texture
