Spiraea x vanhouttei

Located outside small house (Institute for Public & Urban Affairs)
across from Dodd Center.
- leaves alternate, ovate, with 3-5 slight lobes on upper half of
leaf
- leaves blue-green, with irregular serrations on margin
- buds divergent, brown, imbricate, held roughly perpendicular to
stem (at a 90° angle)
- stems thin, red-brown, with lateral branchlets borne at a 90°
angle to main stem
- flowers white, in early spring, in clusters at the ends of the branches
(contrast with other spring-blooming spireas)
- fruit a brown, dry follicle/capsule, persistent on branch tips
- habit a multi-stemmed, arching vase-shaped shrub
