Located outside small house (Institute for Public & Urban Affairs) across from Dodd Center.

  • leaves alternate, ovate, with 3-5 slight lobes on upper half of leaf
  • leaves blue-green, with irregular serrations on margin
  • buds divergent, brown, imbricate, held roughly perpendicular to stem (at a 90° angle)
  • stems thin, red-brown, with lateral branchlets borne at a 90° angle to main stem
  • flowers white, in early spring, in clusters at the ends of the branches (contrast with other spring-blooming spireas)
  • fruit a brown, dry follicle/capsule, persistent on branch tips
  • habit a multi-stemmed, arching vase-shaped shrub
