Located on back side of Benton Museum.

  • leaves opposite, lanceolate, pointed
  • leaves dark green, with crenate margins
  • buds small, imbricate, brown
  • stems brown, pubescent when young, smooth
  • flowers white-pink, in upright panicles, late spring
  • fruit are rounded woody capsules with a central pore and protruding filaments
  • bark on older stems peals and exfoliates in sheets
  • habit is a large upright shrub, often open and gangly with age
  • plant is much larger than D. gracilis
