Aronia arbutifolia

Located behind W.B. Young building near loading dock.
- leaves alternate, obovate, with fine marginal serrations
- leaves deep green on top, gray green beneath
- leaves have small black glands on surface along midrib
- buds imbricate, fleshy, red
- stems brown, somewhat hairy
- flowers white, small, five-petaled, in clusters, spring
- fruit are dark red, persistent pomes in hanging clusters
- habit is an upright, suckering shrub
- plant may be confused with a Viburnum, but Aronia
has alternate leaves (Viburnum is opposite)
