- leaves alternate, small, elliptical, with serrations on tip
- leaves blue-green on top, distinct silvery underneath
- buds small, appressed, imbricate
- stems smooth, deep red-brown, angled
- flowers white, small, in axillary corymbs along stems, in spring
- fruit are brown capsules, persisting along stems in winter
- bark on older stems is striped and may exfoliate
- habit is a medium-size multi-stemmed shrub with an upright, arching
habit
