  • leaves triangular, medium green
  • buds rounded, imbricate, red-brown
  • stems smooth, brown, with prominent woody thorns
  • flowers white, malodorous, clustered, in June
  • fruit are pomes, red, clustered, persistent
  • habit is a small to medium tree (larger than other rosaceous plants covered in lab)
  • bark rough, scaly
