Laburnum x watereri
Waterer Laburnum
Fabaceae
Located in back of Gulley Hall by president's garden.
- leaves alternate, trifoliate, blue-green
- leaflets elliptic, all of same size, to 3" long
- terminal buds large pointed, covered with white hair
- stems smooth, olive green
- flowers yellow, pea-like, in long pendulous racemes
- fruit is a legume (pod), small, not readily produced
- bark remains rather smooth and olive with age, developing some fissures
- habit is a large shrub or small tree, multi-stemmed usually but
can be a single-stem tree
- plant may become leggy with age
