Located next to small white house along Rt. 195 (old international
house).
- leaves simple, ovate, opposite (unusual for rosaceous plants)
- leaves doubly serrate, coarse, with heavily pleated veins for a
rough leaf surface (rugose)
- buds imbricate, plump, brown-green, opposite
- stems smooth, brown
- flowers white, rose-like, in spring
- fruit is a distinctive feature; hard, shiny black drupes borne in
a group
- fruit persist, ripen in October, held above persistent calyx of
flower
- habit is a small to medium multi-stemmed shrub
- texture may be coarse, with irregular branching and long arching
stems
- plant suckers to form colonies
