Located along bank of small pond near large Taxodium and chem building.

  • leaves alternate, odd pinnate, with 7-11 leaflets, large (to 12" long)
  • leaflets large, to 4" long, elliptic to wide ovate, blue-green, entire
  • terminal bud large, heart-shaped
  • stems smooth, mahogany brown
  • flowers white, pea-like, in upright panicles
  • fruit is a pod, borne in group, green turning brown
  • bark is a distinctive feature; rich red-brown
  • bark is smooth when young, peels with age
  • bark features diamond-shaped lenticels with age
  • habit is a small-medium rounded tree, often branching low to ground
