  • leaflets ovate to elliptic, entire, bright blue-green, turning orange-yellow in fall
  • buds pointed, black, hidden beneath petiole base
  • stems glabrous, dark gray-brown
  • flowers white, pea-like, in May, in terminal compound drooping racemes
  • fruit a flat pod, in clusters, turning brown, persistent
  • bark smooth, gray, with raised lenticels
  • habit a medium tree, rounded canopy
