Located on side of pathobiology building.
- leaves alternate, simple, ovate-elliptic
- leaves bright green above, silvery beneath with brownish scales
- leaves have wavy margin and appear silvery from a distance
- buds oblong, imbricate, brown with dotted scales
- stems smooth, round, silver-brown with brownish scaled that lend
a dotted appearance
- stems may bear long pointed spines, not always present
- flowers white, funnel-shaped, fragrant, in late spring
- fruit rounded, silvery red with brown scales
- fruit not always present
- bark brown and smooth-rough with age
- habit a large, irregular shrub, multi-stemmed and "weedy"
in appearance
- plant is often found as a weed in unmanaged areas
