- Leaves opposite, evergreen to semi-evergreen, ovate
- leaves have crenate-serrate margins
- leaves variegated heavily, with irregular white margin with a blue-green
center (prominent ID feature)
- leaves may revert to green, with green-leaved branches present
- buds green, imbricate, divergent
- stems smooth, green
- flowers and fruit inconsequential
- habit is a small shrub
- plant grows erect (not scrambling on ground), may climb as a vine
via rootlets if a support is present
