Euonymus alatus

Celastraceae
Located in front of Wood Hall.
- leaves opposite, deciduous, elliptic-obovate, coming to point
- leaves minutely serrate, dark green
- leaves turn bright pink to red in fall
- buds imbricate, green-brown/red, oval, pointed
- buds interrupt the corky wings along stems
- stems angled, green-brown, with prominent corky lateral "wings"
of tissue on sides twigs
- stem wings interrupted by buds; most prominent on vigorous young
shoots
- flowers small, yellow-green, inconspicuous, late spring, in axillary
cymes
- fruit a red capsule, splitting to reveal a bright orange-red seed
- habit is a medium to large, multi-stemmed rounded shrub with stiff
horizontal branches
- plant self seeds readily and may be found naturalized in the landscape
and wild areas
