  • leaves opposite, small, dark green, with 3-5 lobes
  • leaves usually have 3 primary lobes, with rounded edges
  • buds imbricate, brown-black, small, pubescent
  • stems light brown, with lenticels/fissures
  • flowers green, in corymbs, in May
  • fruit a schizocarp, with the samaras forming a 180° angle
  • bark gray-black, with fissures/furrows
  • habit is a rounded, dense medium tree
