Located on lawn near Koons and Gulley hall.
- leaves alternate, pinnate compound, with 7-15 leaflets
- leaflets bright green, ovate to oblong, coarsely serrate, often
appearing lobed
- buds flattened, large, brown-orange, valvate
- stems thick, olive-brown, with orange-brown lenticels when old
- flowers yellow, in drooping panicles, in summer
- fruit is a 3-valved pyramidal capsule, inflated, papery and green-brown
- fruit persist and appear as panicles of brown lanterns
- bark lightly furrowed, light gray with orange highlights
- habit is a small to medium, rounded tree
- plant is usually single-stemmed, may be multi-stemmed
