Located on northeast side of the Waring Chemistry Bldg.
- needles arranged 2 per fascicle
- needles have heavy texture, dark green
- needles 3-6" long, longest of any pine covered in course
- needles do not break when bent
- terminal bud large and pyramidal like a "Hershey's kiss",
tan/white hairs and orange recurved basal scales
- stems smooth, yellow to brown, ridged
- cones conical, to 3" long, brown
- bark very dark in color, furrowed, with flattened ridges
- habit is usually a single-stemmed, large tree
- plant is pyramidal when young, becoming broad and flat-topped with
age
