  • needles arranged 5 per fascicle
  • needles soft, thin-textured, slightly drooping
  • needles green-blue in color, rather long, pliable
  • needles have serrated margins (compare to P. flexilis with smooth margins)
  • buds pointed, resinous (sticky), small
  • stems with long internodes, green becoming brown, smooth
  • cones long (6"-8"), slightly curved, pendant
  • bark smooth gray when young, plated and rough with age
  • habit is a medium to large tree, pyramidal when young becoming open and horizontal-spreading with age
  • plant is much larger than P. flexilis when mature
