Located along backside of Monteith.
- needles arranged 5 per fascicle
- needles soft, thin-textured, slightly drooping
- needles green-blue in color, rather long, pliable
- needles have serrated margins (compare to P. flexilis with
smooth margins)
- buds pointed, resinous (sticky), small
- stems with long internodes, green becoming brown, smooth
- cones long (6"-8"), slightly curved, pendant
- bark smooth gray when young, plated and rough with age
- habit is a medium to large tree, pyramidal when young becoming open
and horizontal-spreading with age
- plant is much larger than P. flexilis when mature
