Pinus strobus 'Compacta'

Located as a mass behind St. Mark's church near parking lot.
- needles arranged 5 per fascicle, soft and pliable
- needles blue-green, long, thin-textured
- needles droop slightly, have serrated margins (contrast with P.
flexilis)
- buds oval, small, pointed, resinous
- stems smooth, green turning brown
- habit dense and shrubby (multi-stemmed), may be rounded or pyramidal
- plant may achieve large size, but remains dense
- fruit may or may not be present, similar to species
- 'Compacta' is applied to the many dwarf cultivars that appear on
campus
