Located on north side of Swan Lake near the new Chemistry Bldg. and
N. Eagleville Rd.
- needles arranged 2 per fascicle, stiff, to 4" long
- needles have pronounced twist (good ID feature), blue-green color
- buds ovate, pointed, red-brown, resinous, with fringed scales
- stems smooth, green to yellow-brown with age
- cones small, rounded, gray-brown
- bark distinctive, becoming bright orange-brown and peeling in small
flakes; darker on main trunk and plated
- habit is a small to medium size tree
- plant has an irregular, open habit both when young and old; often
losing lowest branches
