Located on the west side of Mirror Lake.
- needles arranged 3 per fascicle (unique among the pines covered
in course), good ID feature
- needles twisted, dark green, long (to 5"), pointed
- buds conical, pointed, somewhat sticky (resinous)
- stems ridged, smooth, thick and short, green becoming brown
- bark broken into flat plates separated by fissures, brownish yellow
- cones small and ovoid with persistent sharp points on scales (good
ID feature)
- cones often held for many years on old growth
- habit is a single-stemmed tree, medium size, open and irregular
in shape
