Cytisus scoparius
Scotch Broom
Located in planting near psychology building, across from Dodd Center.
- leaves deciduous, alternate, tiny, trifoliate, under 1" long,
medium green
- buds small, ovoid, alternate, imbricate
- stems thin, green all year, somewhat winged
- stems become gray/brown colored when old
- flowers pea-like, bright yellow, profuse, in May
- fruit are small 2" leguminous pods
- habit is a multi-stemmed shrub, to 6'
- habit arching and rounded; fine textured
- plant can look ratty with age
