Located on right side of the Rainbowl House along 195.

  • leaves deciduous, opposite, ovate to lanceolate
  • leaves have serrations on upper half
  • leaves deep green in summer; poor or no fall color
  • buds opposite, imbricate, conical, pointed
  • buds yellow/brown, clustered
  • stems often angled, yellow/brown, prominent lenticels
  • stem pith solid at nodes, chambered in internode area (must cut stems to see this trait)
  • stem pith character useful in distinguishing Forsythia
  • flowers yellow, profuse, in early spring, before leaves
  • habit a large shrub, 8'-10' tall, multi-stemmed
  • habit suckering with upright and arching branches
  • plant often appears messy and unkempt
