Border Forsythia
Located on right side of the Rainbowl House along 195.
- leaves deciduous, opposite, ovate to lanceolate
- leaves have serrations on upper half
- leaves deep green in summer; poor or no fall color
- buds opposite, imbricate, conical, pointed
- buds yellow/brown, clustered
- stems often angled, yellow/brown, prominent lenticels
- stem pith solid at nodes, chambered in internode area (must cut
stems to see this trait)
- stem pith character useful in distinguishing Forsythia
- flowers yellow, profuse, in early spring, before leaves
- habit a large shrub, 8'-10' tall, multi-stemmed
- habit suckering with upright and arching branches
- plant often appears messy and unkempt
