- needles short (.75"-1.5") long
- needles directed forward, borne densely on branches
- needles dark green above, prominent lighter stomatal bands below
- needle tips blunt and notched
- bark relatively smooth and gray/brown even with age, resin blisters
present
- leaf scars rounded, like "suction cups"
- cones disintegrate at maturity, not present on ground, large (6")
- habit is a large, narrow pyramidal tree with dense branching
