  • needles short (.75"-1.5") long
  • needles directed forward, borne densely on branches
  • needles dark green above, prominent lighter stomatal bands below
  • needle tips blunt and notched
  • bark relatively smooth and gray/brown even with age, resin blisters present
  • leaf scars rounded, like "suction cups"
  • cones disintegrate at maturity, not present on ground, large (6")
  • habit is a large, narrow pyramidal tree with dense branching
