- needles evergreen, 1" long
- needles blue-green, slightly curved
- needles borne from short spur-like branches along stems
- branch structure open and horizontal with age
- bark smooth and gray when young, rough and plated with age
- cones stand upright on upper branches
- habit is a medium to large tree with spreading, horizontal branches
