  • needles .5"-1" long, blue-green, stiff but not sharply pointed
  • tree lacks pendulous branchlets
  • stem color light brown/yellowish
  • twigs often have damage from Eastern Spruce Gall Adelgid (brown, thickened regions)
  • cones small, 2", bullet-shaped, smooth bracts
  • habit relatively stiff/rigid with horizontal side branches
