- needles .5"-1" long, dark green, stiff and pointed
- needles borne densely along branches
- needles attach to persistent pegs on branches
- habit dense, multi-stemmed, shrub-like
- habit rounded; a small to medium shrub, no distinct leader, branches
layered or somewhat erect
- cones rarely produced
- ultimate size may vary; the name 'Pumila' is applied to various
cultivars with similar, though slightly different habits
