  • needles short, .25"-.75", deep green above and lighter beneath
  • needle tips rounded, margins smooth
  • needles radiate in different directions, not strictly two-ranked like T. canadensis.
  • branching pattern not as regular as T. canadensis
  • cones 1"-1.5", very open scales, different than T. canadensis
  • mature size smaller than T. canadensis
  • stems often have cottony white material at base of needles, from Hemlock Woolly Adelgid insect
