Located on side of Benton Art Museum across from Hall dormitory.

  • needles 2"-5" long, dark green and glossy
  • needles grooved above and below (2 needles fused together)
  • needles clustered in whorls at nodes along stem
  • form dense and pyramidal, slightly more open with age
  • cones 2"-4" long, half as wide
  • cones woody when mature with thick, "chunky" scales
  • male cones visible in winter clustered at branch tips
  • bark orange/brown, peeling in vertical strips, often hidden
