  • leaves scale-like, small, appressed to stem, overlapping
  • leaves medium green, yellow/brown in winter
  • leaves lack white lines underneath
  • leaf tips pointed
  • leaves smell strongly when crushed
  • branches flattened, horizontal
  • cones small, yellow/green when young, brown when mature
  • cones stand upright on branches, resemble "brown tulips"
  • habit pyramidal, more open with age
  • bark gray/orange, shredding when old
