  • needles mostly scale-like, some awl-like needles may be found
  • needles green, closely appressed to stem
  • needles lack white lines underneath
  • fruit is a blue, bloomy fleshy cone ("berry")
  • habit upright and bushy, very open structure
  • branches twisted and tufted in appearance
