- needles mostly awl-like and pointed, gray-green to green (contrast
with J. horizontalis)
- needles short and borne densely on stems
- needles have white spot underneath close to union with stem
- needles lack white lines underneath
- habit creeping and prostrate
- texture dense and mounded, looks "soft"
- cones absent or few
