  • leaves awl-like needles, spirally-arranged on stems
  • leaves four-angled and curve inwards toward stem
  • leaves deep green in summer, winter color brown/green
  • habit pyramidal/conical, more open with age
  • texture soft and "soft" looking from distance
  • bark orange/brown, shredding in vertical strips
  • fruit small, globular cones produced at tips of growth
