  • buds large, opposite, readily visible
  • trunk very straight and upright
  • side branches ascending, narrower crotch angle than Taxodium distichum
  • habit very uniform, pyramidal large tree
  • trunk has wide, flared base with wide furrows
  • bark red/brown, shredding into plates with age
  • fruit small, brown cones
