  • leaves scale-like, appressed to stem, prickly to touch
  • leaves bright green in summer, plum/purple winter color
  • leaves lack white lines beneath
  • branches flattened into sprays, fine textured, feathery
  • habit flattened, spreading, groundcover
  • plant does not lay directly on ground like junipers
  • fruit not found on plant
