- leaves needle-like, 2-ranked, deep green, evergreen
- leaves have cuspidate pointed tip, abrupt pointed and not gradually
tapered
- leaves usually shorter than T. baccata 'Repandens'
- young stems in shade are green, red in sun
- form variable depending on cultivar
- habit usually a dense, multi-branched large shrub
- landscape use common as a clipped/sheared hedge
- plant usually lacks the single, upright trunk of T. cuspidata
'Capitata'
- fruit has a red, fleshy aril surrounding cone when mature
