  • leaves needle-like, 2-ranked, deep green, evergreen
  • leaves have cuspidate pointed tip, abrupt pointed and not gradually tapered
  • leaves usually shorter than T. baccata 'Repandens'
  • young stems in shade are green, red in sun
  • form variable depending on cultivar
  • habit usually a dense, multi-branched large shrub
  • landscape use common as a clipped/sheared hedge
  • plant usually lacks the single, upright trunk of T. cuspidata 'Capitata'
  • fruit has a red, fleshy aril surrounding cone when mature
