Located in center of pharmacy garden.

  • leaves evergreen, compound pinnate, spiny-margined
  • leaves deep green in summer, purplish in winter
  • buds alternate; terminal large with green scales, laterals small
  • flowers yellow, in early spring, terminal clusters
  • habit upright, multi-branched shrub
  • stems have little twiggy growth
  • fruit blue, in clusters, like "grapes"
  • plant resembles a holly superficially (but leaves are pinnate)
